Perhaps no one knows the origins of this comedy group chose "WarungKopi"
as their identity. As a student of literacy to the social-political, Indro and
his colleagues are well aware that there is only one place in this country that
upholds true meaning of democracy. The place in question is "Warung Kopi". "Maturity democracy is good only in the coffee
shop," said Indro. "There, people are free to speak, free to argue,
laugh freely, without a fight. Warung Kopi is why we chose the name for this
group."
In every performance, Warkop always scathing criticism of
the government as social control. In fact, in that era, the people of Indonesia
dikukung by repressive governments.
However, for Warkop, what they do is one of the
responsibilities as citizens. And because of that, they dare to express
criticism of the government, though never did end up at the police station.
"But, we still dare to speak the voice of the people
because that's our goal. We consistently put ourselves as a people," said
Indro.
"And we better have a meaning in the eyes of society
than to be rich. There are two types of satisfaction in this world, that inner
satisfaction and materials. Which is the priority? Warkop more inner
satisfaction. Was own inner satisfaction when we are able to represent the
voice of the people."
Has the meaning in the eyes of the public is one of the
values upheld by Warkop until this moment.
In fact, when the film industry works Warkop look with one
eye, Indro and his friends did not care.
In response, according to Indro, the two men have said the
same thing. "Do not worry about those who do not consider Warkop. Which
should we care about is the millions of people who watched Warkop,"
recalls Indro.
"Mas Mas Dono and Kasino always said that we should put
the interests of the nation than personal interests."
Until now, that principle always embraced Indro, even
outside the world Warkop though.
